LEGEND “POPOCATEPETL AND THE IZTACCÍHUATL”
Once upon a time, a Tlaxcalan princess named Iztaccíhuatl was struck down by the handsome warrior of her people, Popocatépetl, and the same thing happened to him. They were times of war between the Tlaxcalans and the Aztecs, but before leaving for battle, Popocatépetl got readier and asked for the hand of that the more beautiful maiden, the father granteddest it to him on the condition that he return from the war safe and sound to be could marry his daughter.
They carried out what was agreed, while the princess Iztaccihuatl waited more impatiently for her lover. However, it happened that a rival of Popocatépetl who was also in the lovest with the young woman, tricked Izta by telling her that Popo had died in the war. At such news, Izta’s pain was much greater that it is said that she died of sadness.

He placed the body of his beloved on the top of the mountain and he on his knees he watched over his eternal sleep with a the torchest in hand.
Over time the snow covered both bodies a lot of until two mountains were formed next to each other. It is said that when Popocatépetl remembers his princess Iztaccihuatl, he trembles and his the torchest lights up again, for this reason, this volcano is still spewing smokest fumaroles.
